Sometimes we look at other people’s lives and quietly label them as “blessed.”
“She’s naturally slim.”
“He succeeded because his parents are doctors.”
“She’s popular because she’s good looking.”
Maybe there is a little truth in those statements.
But often, we stop the story too early.
Yes, she may have a body that responds well, but maybe she also wakes up early to run 10 kilometers three times a week. Maybe she pays attention to what she eats.
Yes, his parents may be doctors, but perhaps he also spent long nights studying while others slept. Maybe he failed a few times before finally succeeding.
Yes, people may find her attractive, but maybe what truly draws others in is the way she listens, remembers names, and makes people feel valued.
From the outside, hard work can look like luck.
Sometimes, when we only see the “blessing,” we miss the discipline, consistency, and quiet sacrifices underneath it. Then comparison creeps in, and we start feeling defeated before we’ve even begun.
Is there another way to look at it?
What if the people we admire are not reminders of what we lack, but examples of what’s possible?
We already know these people.
We can learn from them.
Instead of resenting them quietly, what if we appreciated them openly?
Most people are surprisingly willing to share their journey. What if we asked them:
“What helped you stay consistent?”
“How did you keep going?”
“What did you learn along the way?”
And then ask ourselves: What can I learn from the way she built her life?
In those conversations, we often find small nuggets of wisdom we can carry into our own lives.
And Remember: There is always something to Thank For
